This charming residential community along the shoreline of Fairfield County has lovely beaches, parks and little industry. It serves as a “Bedroom Community” for New York as well as its border cities, Stamford and Norwalk. The commute into the city by Metro North is possible via two railroad stations, Darien Center and Noroton Heights. Noroton Heights is a section of Darien. The Town of Darien spreads across 23.4 square miles of level and rocky terrain bordered by the Long Island Sound on its southern end.

Known for its consistently high level of education, Darien was listed by the U.S. News as one of the best High Schools in Connecticut. The High School was expanded and refurbished in 2005 at a cost of $73 million and includes a state-of-the-art theater. Darien’s four elementary schools are located throughout the Town.

The YMCA is an active provider of community programs and recreation. There are two nature preserves with almost 100 acres between them as well as 6 public parks and two public beaches. Darien is famous for its Ox Ridge Hunt Club’s riding stables and programs and for its yearly Charity School which draws over 15,000 people.

Philanthropy is a strong component of life in Darien ranging from the Darien Book Aid program which ships books throughout the world, its Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk located in Darien, and Person-to-Person, a remarkable 2000+ volunteer agency which supplies food and aid throughout the area.
