    In 2006 CNN’s Money magazine rated Ridgefield as the Best to Place to live in the United States.  From a quaint central main street with the historic Keeler’s Tavern, the Aldrich Museum, antique homes, shops, restaurants and Chez Lenard’s Hot Dog Cart – a local “institution” with 44-years + in business to two strong performing arts centers (The Ridgefield Playhouse and The Ridgefield Barn) this town is true New England gone chic.

    Ridgefield began as an agriculture community and evolved to a weekend and resort town for New York society.  Over time though reinvented, it remained a community centered village where open space is a serious concept:   5200 acres or 23% of its total area is preserved and protected, with a goal to reach 25%.   The Ballard Park in the center of town (6.5 acres along Main Street) offers year round recreation.  Traditional fare can be enjoyed across from Ballard at the historic Elms Inn where each period-style room receives a complimentary breakfast.

    Most of Ridgefield commuters who live in the western part of town either drive or take the HART bus system to the NY Harlem line via Katonah or Golden’s Bridge into New York City.  Those living on the south side of town will commute down Route 7 to the more frequent service of the South Norwalk or Westport Stations.  The local Branchville line in eastern Ridgefield has peak service hours, but infrequent service during off peak hours.

    The schools have approx. 410 students of which 22% are taking Advanced Placement test with 92% passing (3+).  Dr. Thomas McMorran Ridgefield’s High School principal was recognized as Connecticut 2012 High School Principal of the Year.  US News rated the High School as a Silver Medal School in 2007/8.  Its East Ridge Middle School was awarded the Connecticut Blue Ribbon award for excellence in 2009, and St. Mary’s Catholic School was awarded the 2010 National Blue Ribbon School.
